Rescued Pine Marten Biff Touches

Pine marten Biff explores her new habitat at the Minnesota Zoo.

There’s a mischievous new face on the Minnesota Trail! Biff, a rescued female pine marten, made her Zoo-debut this winter and has been busy exploring her new home — and keeping a curious eye on visitors.

Biff arrived at the Zoo in November 2025 as a rescue from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Thanks to a longtime partnership with the agency, she was given a new beginning and a safe, forever home here at the Zoo. Now settled in, Biff alternates her time on habitat with the Zoo’s other pine marten, Marty McFly. Biff is the bigger of the two, with darker fur and a fuller, fluffier tail.

Behind the scenes, she’s been impressing her team with her big personality. “She’s a bit of a spicy weasel,” says Curator Bree Barney. Curious, confident, and bold, Biff loves to vocalize at her zookeepers and explore the highest points of her habitat, giving her the perfect vantage point to spy on visitors as she zips through the trees. When she’s not zooming around, Biff has been known to embrace the slower side of life, preferring to snuggle up in blankets for a cozy nap.

Rescue stories like Biff’s aren’t planned and are only possible because of generous support from Foundation donors, who allow the Zoo to respond quickly and answer the call for wildlife in need. Thanks to donors like you, rescued animals like Biff have a second chance to not only survive, but thrive as they inspire countless guests to do more to save wildlife every day.
