Rescue Possible.
When SeaQuest closed its doors, nearly 1,400 animal faced an uncertain future.
See the incredible story of how the Minnesota Zoo stepped up to help give them a new beginning.
What Happens When Their Home Vanishes Overnight?
For nearly 1,400 animals, this was a terrifying reality. When SeaQuest Minnesota closed, a complex ecosystem of life was left in limbo — from sloths and fish to wallabies and porcupines. The clock was ticking. Finding a home for one animal is a challenge; finding expert care and sanctuary for 1,400 at once is a monumental undertaking. Without immediate action, the future for these animals was grim.
We Had a Choice:
Stand By, or Step In
The Minnesota Zoo’s mission to connect people, animals, and the natural world goes beyond our campus and calls upon us to act. That’s why the Zoo’s expert teams of veterinarians, zookeepers, and operations staff mobilized immediately, embarking on the largest rescue mission in Zoo history, taking in 128 animals and coordinating homes for the rest so each animal would receive the safety and care they deserve.
Watch the full story of this historic rescue and see the journey from the first day of the rescue to the animals thriving in their new home.
